Varsity Boys Soccer is Conference AA2 Champions 10/22/18

The Varsity Boys Soccer Team has compiled a 9-2-1 overall regular season league record. This gave the team a total of 28 points in the Conference AA2 standings. 28 points was the most in Conference AA2 which meant Westbury was Conference AA2 champions for the 2018 season. Accordingly, the soccer championship banner located in the WHS gymnasium will be updated prior to next fall (banners are updated collectively at the end of the spring season to minimize shipping costs). The first place finish in Conference AA2 helped to earn Westbury a second seed among the 8 teams in the AA playoffs. Westbury was matched against the 7th seed, Long Beach High School in the quarterfinal round of the playoffs. The game was played at Westbury High School on October 23, 2018 in front of a packed sideline of predominantly Westbury supporters. Both teams starters were formerly announced over the permanently mounted outdoor public address system by Mr. Capsis from the pressbox. The teams had split during the regular season with Long Beach winning at Long Beach and Westbury winning at Westbury. The quarterfinal game was decided by one goal with Long Beach emerging as the victor with a 3-2 edging of Westbury.
