We are proud to celebrate another significant investment in the future of the Westbury Union Free School District!

Thanks to the leadership and advocacy of Nassau County Legislator Viviana Russell and her dedicated team, the Nassau County Legislature has unanimously approved more than $251,000 in Community Revitalization Project (CRP) funding to support improvements to our Westbury High School bleachers and the playground at Powell’s Lane Elementary School.

These enhancements will create safer, more welcoming spaces for our scholars while strengthening gathering places that will be enjoyed by families, alumni, and our entire Westbury community for years to come.

We extend our heartfelt appreciation to Legislator Russell and her outstanding team for championing these projects and for their unwavering commitment to the children and residents of Westbury.

Together, we continue to demonstrate what is possible when local government and public education work hand in hand to invest in the next generation. The future of Westbury is bright, and we look forward to celebrating these exciting improvements with our community.

The Westbury Union Free School District is proud to welcome Jonathan Gill as our new Director of Athletics, Health, and Physical Education!

Mr. Gill joins the Green Dragon family with an exceptional background in athletic leadership, education, and coaching. Throughout his career, he has built championship-caliber programs while remaining committed to what matters most: the academic, social, emotional, and physical growth of every student-athlete.

Most recently serving as Athletic Director in the West Hempstead School District, Mr. Gill helped foster a culture of excellence that led to conference, county, and Long Island championships, expanded opportunities for student participation, and statewide recognition for academic achievement. His leadership reflects a belief that success in athletics and success in the classroom go hand in hand.

A former Division I student-athlete at the University of Akron and collegiate football coach, Mr. Gill brings years of experience mentoring young people, developing leaders of character, and creating opportunities for scholars to thrive both on and off the field.

We also extend our heartfelt gratitude to Mr. Doric Capsis, whose years of dedicated service and leadership have left a lasting impact on Westbury athletics. We wish him a happy, healthy, and well-deserved retirement.

Sophia C., a sixth-grade scholar at Westbury Middle School, was recognized at the January 13, 2026, Board of Education meeting for a distinguished honor she received through Girls Who Brunch. While attending the Girls Who Brunch Tour in Wyandanch, NY, on November 1, themed “The Bold and BeYouthiful Blueprint,” Sophia was personally selected by founder Dr. Ni’Cola Mitchell to be honored at the organization’s national gala in Atlanta, Georgia, in May 2026.

Sophia’s recognition reflects her confidence, leadership, and willingness to embrace opportunities that uplift young voices, highlighting the promise and potential she brings to her school community as she continues to grow, lead, and inspire.
