Last night, before the Board of Education meeting, the Westbury Union Free School District celebrated the season with a heartwarming Holiday Reception.

On December 11, 2024, the Westbury Board of Education, Superintendent Dr. Tahira Dupree Chase, and Athletic Director Doric Capsis proudly celebrated scholar-athletes' achievements. At the same time, the essential contributions of the custodial team were recognized.

At the 58th Nassau County Football Banquet, held on December 9 at Crest Hollow Country Club, Westbury Football shone brightly with well-deserved accolades.

Westbury High School scholars had an exciting hands-on experience at Jones Beach State Park as part of their International Baccalaureate (IB), AP Environmental Science, and AP courses.

We are thrilled to welcome Dr. Jonathan Oliveri to the Westbury Middle School as our new Assistant Principal. Dr. Oliveri brings a wealth of experience in educational leadership and language instruction, making him a valuable addition to our middle school team.

After head-to-head with 15 schools across the East Coast, Westbury High School emerged victorious in the “2024 Turf Madness Competition.” The award, presented by LandTek at the pep rally on September 20th, recognized Westbury’s field as the best turf installed in 2024.

The Westbury Union Free School District proudly congratulates Ms. Echele May, Principal of Drexel Avenue Elementary School, and Ms. Shirley Vargas, Department Chairperson of World Languages and Seal of Biliteracy Coordinator at Westbury High School, for their well-deserved honors at the recent Hispanic Heritage Month Opening Ceremony. This recognition was presented by the Office of Hispanic Affairs and the Long Island Hispanic Chamber of Commerce, shining a light on their exceptional dedication and contributions to our community. We take pride in their achievements and the enduring impact they continue to have in Westbury.

Mrs. Meaghan Gray, an English teacher at Westbury High School, was invited by the Westbury Memorial Public Library to speak to the community about 9/11 and the importance of teaching it in classrooms. 

Westbury Boys Varsity Soccer captain Abdiel V. has been named to Newsday’s Top 100 boys soccer players list. A third-year starter for the Green Dragons, Abdiel excels as a central midfielder.

We are delighted to share that Bradley A. has been chosen to play the Tuba in the Symphonic Band at the 2024-2025 NYSSMA All-State Performing Ensembles in Rochester

Westbury High School recently held a heartfelt graduation ceremony on August 26, celebrating the accomplishments of its graduates.

Christopher Cassone, a Science specialist at Drexel Avenue Elementary School, has been awarded the prestigious LISTEMELA (Long Island Science Technology Engineering Math Education Leadership Association) award for outstanding contributions to the Westbury Union Free School District and Drexel Avenue Elementary School.
