Transportation
About
In alignment with the Westbury Union Free School District's mission and vision, the Department of Transportation provides safe and reliable school bus transportaion to all eligible scholars of the Westbury Union Free School District.
The Westbury Union Free School District Board of Education will provide transportation to public and non-public school students who reside within designated distances from the school they attend in accordance with the applicable section of the Education Law and rulings of the Commissioner of Education.
Transportation will be provided as follows:
- For pupils in Kindergarten, who live zero miles or more from the school they attend.
- For pupils in Grades 1-5, who live at least one half of a mile, or more, from the school they attend.
- For pupils in Grades 6-12, who live at least one mile, or more, from the school they attend.
Students must meet these requirements to be approved for district transportation. Distances from all homes in the district to all schools serving those homes have been calculated. It is the distances that determine eligibility. School bus transportation is provided to students that meet the mileage requirements. Buses will stop for pick-up and drop-off of passengers based on area. All students in the area shall walk to the spot designated on their Bus Pass for pick-up.
The Transportation Department or a designee shall determine bus stops and shall designate the specific bus to be taken by the student to and from school, and the pupil shall have no authority to ride any other bus.
Should you wish the Transportation Department to review a student’s bus stop assignment; please complete the
BUS STOP REVIEW FORM (ENG), (SPA), (CRE).
Where a request for transportation is based on a medical condition, consideration is based on the nature and severity of the medical concern. Parents seeking a medical bus pass should apply to the school nurse at the school which the student attends.

FirstView
READ QUICK START GUIDE HERE
Westbury School District is pleased to announce the piloting of FirstView, a bus tracking and parent communications app for your smartphone or desktop. We will be offering FirstView, in partnership with our transportation provider, First Student, for our elementary school scholars in grades K-5. Below are some of the key features of the app:
-
Live Tracking
The FirstView map screen shows you the location and direction of your child’s bus, for both morning and afternoon trips. FirstView also provides caregivers with confirmation when the trip is complete.
-
Customizable Bus Proximity Notifications
With FirstView, you may set up a geofence around your location and will be alerted when the bus enters the geofence. The geofence size and alert times are customizable, so parents are in control of their notifications. Scholars should still be at their assigned bus stop 10 minutes prior to the scheduled arrival time.
-
Custom Alerts and Messages
Set up push or email notifications alerting you when your child's bus enters the geofence. Connect up to three additional email accounts (including your own) to receive email alerts. This is a great feature for grandparents and/or caregivers.
-
Multi-Stop View
For families with multiple children, buses for all your children can be tracked with FirstView. Using individual colors for each child, the bus assigned to each child’s route appears on the map in the same color as the child for easy viewing.
-
Secure and Easy Access
FirstView requires a password-protected account for app set-up. This way, only you can view your child(ren)’s stop. These codes will be provided by your district/school.
-
