Adult Basic Education Partners
The Verizon Village Educational Technology Support TEAM
We at the Verizon Village TEAM strive to achieve the highest level of excellence when it comes to helping to educate our community members. Thanks to a Community Technology Grant from the US Department of Education, Verizon Village TEAM members have asked to join the faculty at the Adult Basic Education Program as educational technology consultants. In this task we will work with the Westbury School District Adult Basic Education program to integrate technology into the curriculum. While much of the training that we do will focus on basic computer skills, such as navigating and searching the Internet, building word processing skills such as creating a resume and writing a letter and on Career Education, we will also work closely with the teachers to find a way to integrate technology with the workbooks and texts that are already being utilized in class.
Some of the areas that we will be focusing on will include:
Basic Computer Skills: Navigating Windows, Connecting Perphirals, Terminology
Basic Internet Skills: Searching and Navigating the Internet
Basic Word Processing Skills: Typing, Letter writing, Publishing
Career Education: Creating resumes, Locating career and community resources
Integrating Computer Technology into Classroom Curriculum: We will work closely with the Adult Basic Education teachers to incorporate current technologies and create learning enviroments that will enhance each learner's ability to grow and become participants in their community.
