A Letter from the Superintendent
Dr. Constance R. Clark
Superintendent of Schools, Westbury Union Free School District
Welcome back to another exciting and challenging school year. We are pleased and proud of the academic progress and achievements of our students. During the school year 04-05, Standard & Poor’s cited the Westbury School District as one of the 47 outperforming school districts in New York. This national prestigious report has validated the quality of our educational program and school district.
Westbury
will continue to meet the challenge of State mandates and assessments by
performing above the State Performance Index of 150 and will set even higher
standards for our students.

Westbury's
21st Century Community Learning Centers
Innovative and exciting programs have come to the students and parents of the Westbury School District through a 21st Century Community Learning Centers grant.
This competitive funding opportunity provides for both academic and recreational programming that extends the school day. With the Westbury School District at the hub, community businesses and agencies collaborate to design enrichment activities for our students to reinforce and complement their regular academic programs, in the safe and enjoyable environment of our schools.
The programs are available to all students attending school within the Westbury School District. All academic subject areas are conducted by NYS certified teachers. Particular attention is given to maintaining small class sizes in order to provide opportunities for individualized attention. Emphasis is placed on interactive, hands-on, experiential learning. This segment of the program is enhanced through the partnerships that are developed through this grant. Several collaborative programs are led by artists-in-residence, athletic coaches, social workers, and a host of other professionals and experts in their fields.
Moreover, our students participate in several cultural trips to museums, the theatre, and other places of interest.
The families of children participating in the 21st Century Programs are encouraged to take advantage of the literacy classes and other educational programs, such as the GED course, designed to meet the needs of our adult population. Parent workshops are offered on a variety of topics such as health, nutrition, parenting skills, and ways to increase their child’s academic performance.
I am looking forward to you and your children participating in these wonderful programs.
