Powells Lane's
17th Annual Career Day was a wonderful experience. This year's
program, which took place on March 15th, drew people from
approximately 33 professional fields. Our students were exposed
to professionals from the Criminal Justice System, Medical
Profession, Film and Commercial Making, and a member from
PAWS who stressed the importance of humane treatment of animals. |

The students were enthusiastic to interact with
the presenters and greeted them with a barage of questions. It
afforded the students an opportunity to grasp the school/work world
connection in that the presenters tied components of their careers
with elements of the students' curriculum. This made it meaningful
for our youngsters. |
The magnitude
of this program attracted members of the Westbury School District
administration, who were on board to lend a hand. Aside from
being a learning experience for the students, it was interesting
to see the presenters interacting with each other. They too were
impressed with the diversity and magnitude of the program and
found this to be a good opportunity to interact with one another. |
